Fusa project
Fusa project
2010
The Fusa fan is a very large intramontane, unconsolidated deposit of unknown origin. One of the questions of this project is whether this huge intramontane fan is the product of a catastrophic glacial drainage coming from the Bogotá plateau.
The latest geochronology techniques are being applied to solve this problem (GSA abstract) in cooperation with Glenn Berger of the Desert Research Institute. We are hoping to obtain independent age estimates from radiocarbon dating and luminescence geochronology dates from this fan.
The top photo shows the fan looking from the south. Side photos show the chaotic nature of this deposit where César Silva and Glenn Berger discuss the better sampling strategy for luminescence analyses.
Fusa Project
3/1/10
In a project in cooperation with Corporación Geológica Ares, Natalia Hoyos and César Silva are now collecting samples to attempt an accurate age-dating of the Fusagasugá fan in central Colombia.
